- In the Chinook Creation Legend this name is given to Coyote, to whom have been attributed a whole succession of good deeds, including the driving of the sea away from the prairie land so that men could settle down, and the laying down of the codes of taboos and hunting laws. The mischievous qualities of Coyote in other myths have in this case been attributed to Blue-Jay.
